Queensbury District and Curriculum
Queensbury is served by the Queensbury Union Free School District. The district has a student population of 3,700. The district has a single campus that has separate buildings for its elementary, intermediate, middle, and high schools. Queensbury schools offer students instruction in math and English Language Arts that is based on the New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards and extended by career-based electives, technical education, community service and character education.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Queensbury District Curriculum
Instruction in math is guided by a curriculum that prioritizes a deep knowledge of core mathematics concepts over a shallow knowledge of a broad range of mathematics concepts. Students are introduced to core mathematics concepts in the early grades, and then go on develop their ability to understand and apply those concepts as they move up through subsequent grades.
Instruction in English Language Arts is guided by a curriculum that does not prioritize only reading and writing. Though students are expected to read closely and attentively and clearly communicate their thoughts in writing, they are also expected to master speaking, listening, and language skills. For instance, students must master correct sentence structure and comma usage in clauses and phrases, and have the correct use of common homophones such as affect/effect or their/there.

- New Principal at Queensbury Elementary - Kyle Gannon has been named as the next principal of Queensbury Elementary School. Gannon, a former QES teacher, is currently principal of William H. Barton Intermediate School. Gannon is currently working with QES staff and current principal Patrick Pomerville to smoothly transition into his new position.
- Queensbury Union FSD Employee Spotlight - The Queensbury Union Free School District has made driver aide Lillian Eldred and music teacher Amy Hoskins the subjects of the most recent Employee Spotlight. Eldred, who assists school bus drivers with special needs students, has worked for the district for 20 years. Hoskins, who teaches fourth and fifth grades, has been with the district for two years.
- Queensbury Union FSD Budget Goals - The Queensbury Union Free School District is seeking $983,550 that will go towards its bus program. The district will use the money to maintain current buses and work towards a 10-year bus replacement plan.

Some children will be greatly affected by the behavior of their peers, discussing these feelings will help the child process what they are seeing and better enable them to become the type of person they want to become. Parents and teachers can give students tips on being good citizens, or compliment students on when they demonstrate good citizenship. After all, learning how to treat and communicate with others is an important part of every child’s education, and is as important to future success as instruction in core subjects.
