Chalk Talk: Helping Your Child to Read
Helping your child read can be simple or hard depending on your child’s interest in the activity. Regardless of their interest in reading, creating a reading culture in your home can help. Taking time to read with your child, read as a family, and read to your child can help. Going to the library regularly and getting books on many subjects can help as well. Promote reading and reading activities. There are many computer based reading games online or resources that teachers may recommend. Help your child learn just how much information can be found through reading. If they ask you a question and you don’t know the answer, find it together in written material. This can teach your child to use their reading skills and creativity to answer questions they have using resources available to them. And always encourage and praise your child’s efforts in reading.
