Chalk Talk: Establishing a Health Sleep Routine for Your Child
One thing children never grow out of is the need for sleep. A great deal of early development centers on routines of naptime and bedtime, and as children get older they need to have established patterns for sleeping, because kids today are busy. Making sure children get enough rest is one of the most important aspects of their cognitive development, and there ability to handle emotional and social aspects of life as well. Of course, as children get older they will push the boundaries and try to stay up as late as possible. On the weekends, they shouldn't stay up horrendously late. An hour more than you normally do is probably ok, but much more than that and you’ll throw your body clock way off. And staying up all night is rarely if ever a good idea if rest is the goal. Even if their schedule is busy, they can get more rest and have more energy and brain power for your day.
