Converse District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The Judson Independent School District uses the Texas Department of Education’s Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills to build a curriculum that helps students succeed in life. The curriculum is comprehensive and provides detailed learning objectives that students should meet each year. Annual testing in core subjects is aligned to the curriculum and used to ensure not only that students are meeting the goals but also that entire schools are seeing their students’ progress at the anticipated pace.
We currently cover the following Converse-area school district: Judson Independent School District.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Converse District Curriculum
Algebra is a part of the mathematics curriculum at Converse Schools. Students begin the process of learning algebraic thinking by learning how to solve equations. They also learn how to solve one unknown factor by using tools that they learn in classes, such as forming generalization or by deconstructing numbers. By the time they graduate they learn the importance of symbolic reasoning in mathematics and how it can be used throughout their lives.
Reading and writing go hand-in-hand in the Language Arts curriculum at Converse Schools. Students learn to read and write by watching teachers demonstrate these skills and then by practicing, letter by letter, and word by word. These two subjects continue to work together as students use literature to show them how to write for different purposes. Students look to short stories, novels and myths to show them how to become better writers in each of these fields.

Chalk Talk: SAT Math
Many students face the math portion of the SAT with a sense of fear. This can be relieved if the student can be prepared as to what to expect. Before considering taking the exam, the student should take Algebra and Geometry. They then need to commit themselves to studying every day to help prepare. If they purchase the College Board exam book there are sample tests to take for practice. There are three sections to the math test, each one takes between 20 to 25 minutes to complete. Each question, whether one of the easy ones at the beginning of the sections, or the harder ones at the end, is worth the same value. The SAT does not reward guesses, so make sure of the answer before marking the sheet. A wrong answer takes one quarter to a third of a point from the score. With these ideas, perhaps the student will be able to face the test with more confidence.
