Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Midlothian District Curriculum
Social Studies introduces students to the world close at hand and countries far away. Students, at first, become acquainted with their community and state. They learn the history behind each of these and the people that are required to help them run smoothly. When they become familiar with these ideas, they are then introduced to ancient civilization and cultures, as well as those around the world today. They also find out how geography plays a role in the settlements of these diverse areas.
The mathematics curriculum at Midlothian Independent School District helps students feel comfortable around numbers and the ways they can be used. From the moment they enter school students learn how to assign numbers to each item in a set. They then discover how to combine sets, or to take away items in a set, to create an equation. Soon they learn how to use numbers to solve algebraic problems or to find the volume of a cylinder. By the time they graduate the students will be able to solve any numeric problem that they come across.

Chalk Talk: How to Get the Attention of College Admissions
Each admissions office receives stacks of applications from students that want to go to college at their school. To help a student gain the attention of the college admissions officer, there are a few things to try. The first thing that the college sees is the application, to be placed on top of the stack a student needs to remember to be creative. There are usually areas which include an essay, short answers, or supplements which each allows for a student’s individuality to shine through. While being creative, make sure to write to the prompt and to check to make sure that it is well-written and that it does not sound too casual. Finally, make sure that the answer reflects the student’s personality and demonstrates the student’s merits. With these ideas tucked away, a student’s application has a better chance of shining when it enters the admissions office.
