Murphy District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The Plano Independent School District empowers students to live successful lives while attending school and after graduation. This is possible by the creative curriculum developed by the staff and built around The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. The subjects are broken down along major topics and students’ knowledge is deepened each year through established grade level expectations. These students are shown how to use their math, science, literacy, and communication skills in everyday situations so they can become life-long problem solvers.
We currently cover the following Murphy-area school district: Plano Independent School District.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Murphy District Curriculum
The students at Plano Independent School District are exposed to the ways that mathematics is relevant to their lives from the first days of school. They learn how to use numbers to count objects, or to find out how much money is in front of them. They then learn to take this skill further as they learn how to use math to find how much of a discount a sale saves them on an item or how much they can earn from a job by knowing how much they can earn per hour.
Geography is part of the Social Studies curriculum at Plano Independent School District. Through this subject the students learn how each country is similar and different. Students learn the different land and water forms throughout the world, along with how each of these may have formed. Students also find how each culture is different and how they are similar. They discover the different types of government and the role that the people have, or do not have, in the running of the country. They also learn about the different roles people play in a functioning society.

Chalk Talk: Kids and Nature
If a child prefers to spend time in front of the television instead of spending time outdoors, here are some ideas to help them become closer with nature. To begin, try to take a walk with the child. While walking, observe natural items. On future walks look at how these items change. A natural environment can also be created by adopting a pet, or tending a flower, vegetable or herb garden. Some kids may have aversions to getting dirty, but for them visiting an Arboretum or other type of activity may bridge the divide. By connecting the child to nature, they may become calmer, helping them to succeed in homework or academic areas. Parents and children can also go to the yard and build caves, make mud pies, or even splash in water. By doing this with the child, it will give the child permission to explore and have fun in nature.
