Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Plaquemine District Curriculum

The Iberville Parish School District has implemented the state approved Common Core Curriculum. The curricular program was developed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college or other further education and in the work force. In Mathematics, the curriculum in centered around basic mathematical concepts and studies including arithmetic, statistics and data analysis, algebra, geometry, measurement, and proportional reasoning.

The ability to apply what they have learned to higher math and to solve math problems quickly is a focus of the curriculum. In English and Language Arts (ELA) the objective is to ensure that children become fully literate in reading, speaking, writing and listening in English. Students are helped to develop skills of critical analysis and good research capabilities. To prepare students for the types of reading material they may encounter in college or on job both literature and informational text are used in the ELA classes.
