Chalk Talk: Learning to Let Go

A song that is currently popular among many school-age children urges the listener to “Let it go!” That’s good advice for parents who are having trouble with school-age children. Let’s be honest. We all work hard, often when we don’t want to. However, sometimes we stop working hard. We give ourselves a break. Sometimes the break only lasts a few minutes, and other times, well…. Who hasn’t called in “sick” from time to time? Kids who are working hard at school need the chance to take a break, too. They need to be able to “Let it go!,” to momentarily drop the work that is frustrating them and rejuvenate their minds and bodies. It gives them a chance to breathe, and prevents them from going over the edge and letting a homework assignment lead them to have a bad day at home and school.
