Stony Point District and Curriculum
Stony Point, New York, is located within the North Rockland Central School District. The district is made up of three primary schools, three intermediate schools, one middle school, and one high school. It has a total enrollment of 7,000 students. The North Rockland Central School District English Language Arts and Math curricula are based on standards that progressively develop students abilities. The curricular frameworks for all other classes, including social studies, science and technology, career programs, theatre, and music, are based on the New York State Learning Standards.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Stony Point District Curriculum
The districts English Language arts curriculum is guided by standards that encourage students to develop literacy skills that they can use in all subjects areas. These literacy skills include, but are not limited to, reading and comprehending a wide variety of texts, critiquing texts, researching texts, and writing about texts. Language and vocabulary skills are particularly emphasized in the reading and writing strands to the curriculum, as they give the basis of decoding skills and clarity in communication.
The math curriculum is based on standards that encourage students to develop core mathematics skills that they can apply to real world problems. These core skills include, but are not limited to, numeration, abstract thinking, problem analysis, and learning how to construct viable mathematical models. The Science curriculum begins by introducing fundamentals of scientific investigation and content in biology, earth and environmental science, physical science, engineering and technology.

- Pink in the Park Baseball Fundraiser - All North Rockland schools participated in selling tickets to the Pink in the Park baseball game fundraiser, hosted by the United Women of Rockland. Money raised at the event will go to a local North Rockland CSD teacher.
- Philip Mathangani Foundation Events - The Philip Mathangani Foundation, which awards scholarships to North Rockland students, is preparing its annual BBQ & Ultimate Disc Tournament fundraiser. The event will take place at Charles S. Eccher Park. Ultimate disc teams that want to participate in the tournament will have to pay a $75 entry fee.
- Track and Field Clinic - North Rockland Central School District will host a speed and agility clinic for boys and girls in grades 7-12. The clinic is designed to help boys and girls who already have basic track and field skills further develop their speed and agility. Girls cross-country and track and field coach Brian Diglio will direct the clinic. Kyle Murphy will be the lead instructor.

Chalk Talk: A Club For Everyone
It seems that today’s school have more extra-curricular clubs than ever. There are photography clubs, computer clubs, game-based clubs, and yoga clubs. Some people think that there are too many clubs. They believe that children are busy enough without clubs, and don’t need take more time away from studying core subjects. A child who is part of an extra-curricular clubs is not taking time away from studying core subjects. Rather, he or she is taking the things the or she learned in core subjects and applying them to other areas of interest. Kids in book clubs work on reading and analyzing texts. Kids in photograph clubs use science and art to create their masterworks. Kids in computer and game-based clubs put their math knowledge to good use. Kids in yoga clubs supplement and apply the lessons they learn in P.E. The whole point of education is to teach kids to apply the skills the learn in school to real world situations. Kids in clubs are doing just that.
