Chalk Talk: School Jobs
While community service requirements and community outreach efforts have become a mainstay of education, many young students also benefit from having a 'job' at school. You just don’t see as many children working as hall monitors, water fountain monitors, and classroom assistants as you once did. That is a shame because these and other similar school jobs taught many students lessons about responsibility, safety, and fairness. Of course, insurance laws are different than they once were, and with schools facing concerns about litigiousness, but that shouldn’t stop schools from putting students with good behavior records to work. Students who do small jobs at school will gain experience and knowledge that will serve them well for the rest of their lives. All they need is a chance to prove their responsibility to themselves.
