Vincennes District and Curriculum
The Vincennes Community School Corporation provides students with a comprehensive education based on Common Core and state developed learning standards. The curriculum design is progressive in that it focuses on key topics and moves students through layers of complexity over their school years. This design helps students to reach a level of analytic and critical awareness within the subject areas, that thoroughly prepares them for college level academics. Beyond the core, students are also expected to participate in community service and other outreach efforts.
We currently cover the following Vincennes-area school district: Vincennes Community School Corporation.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Vincennes District Curriculum
The language arts curriculum prepares students to independently consume and analyze literature through reading and writing. Speaking and listening skills are also increased through discussions and active listening. Hands-on practice in conducting research develops students’ knowledge of the research process. Students explore the human experience throughout history and their physical world in the social studies and science curriculum. The relationships between numbers and the evaluation of expressions are studied in the mathematics curriculum.
Music, theatre, and visual arts classes allow students to express themselves artistically. Through these courses, students use the creative process to develop interpretation skills and learn about other cultures. Students participate in physical activity through physical education and dance classes, as well as learn about creative movement. Electives to help students explore their personal and career interests include business, world languages, agriculture, and technology.

Chalk Talk: What to Do the Night Before and the Morning of the SAT or ACT
You’ve studied for months and it’s finally the night before the SAT or ACT. How should you prepare? Well, first you should make sure you have everything you need to get into the testing center. Pack your id and admission ticket in the bag that you plan to take with you. Next, make sure you know how to get to the center. Print out directions or put the address in your phone or GPS the night before. Set your alarm as well; you won’t be able to get in if you arrive after 8 A.M. You should also plan out what you want to wear. It’s important that you wear comfortable clothing and you might want to bring a sweater with you in case it’s cold. Since you will also have a break during the test, pack a high-calorie snack like trail mix or fruit. Finally, stay home the night before and eat a healthy meal instead of a huge, greasy one. Then get a good night’s sleep so you’ll be refreshed and ready to ace the SAT or ACT!
