School clubs relating to these courses, as well as to community service, are also available to students.

For second-language English learners, students’ home, community, and school experiences are all considered in developing language proficiency. Chalk Talk: How Parents Can Help Students Succeed

Although teachers play an integral part in children’s learning, it is very important for parents to be active in their education as well. Reading as much as possible at home can be very beneficial for students. You can read to your child, have them read to you, or have siblings read with them. Parents can also practice writing at home with their child. Have them write letters or grocery lists. Students can also practice math skills by making it a part of their everyday life. Cooking and shopping are both opportunities to practice reading, writing, and math abilities. Having your child study with friends can also make this time enjoyable. Study groups can be formed outside of the home, in places such as church or community centers. Finally, treat the world as an extended classroom. Visits to the farmer’s market or grocery stores can be opportunities to teach your child about the variety of food available and its impact on health. Using these strategies, along with others can enhance your child’s education.
