Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mayfield District Curriculum
Mayfield Independent Schools want their students to succeed beyond their K-12 education and so have several career and college-bound opportunities set in place. Students in high school can take elective courses of their choosing, like band or carpentry, to better help them get a grasp on what subject or area they would be most happy and successful continuing in. Students can get technical training in classes like electricity in hopes of learning a trade or beginning work as an electrician, for example.
High school students are required to work toward their diploma by taking a minimum of 22 credits in the core subjects of math, language arts, social studies, and science. The high schoolers of this district can prepare themselves for college early on by working toward AP-level courses like AP Calculus or AP Statistics in the math department, or AP World History and Geography in the social studies department.

Chalk Talk: Using Your Resources
In the age of the Internet, it can be difficult to know where to begin to look for resources for studying or to look up information that might be helpful to you as you proceed through your high school career. Students can benefit from researching educational sites that provide helpful resource links to get them headed in the right direction to finding credible information. Writing down a list of websites you come across in your searches is a helpful way to keep track of your findings. Always having a dictionary on hand is invaluable to writing a strong paper. Use the notes you take in class to help you with structuring the information you need to understand; the books your teachers assign to you are also important and necessary resources for your success in any course. Keep tabs of websites that you find most beneficial in your research, and consult them when you need help with gathering material for a project.
