EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
As someone who loves school, I’ve discovered that there are endless ways to learn the same things and the most valuable skill is figuring out your own individual way of learning. As a tutor I work with students to help them solve academic problems themselves, guiding them to their own solutions rather than simply providing them with one way to achieve their goals.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
After high school I began my post-secondary education at North Island College in the Fine Arts program. However, anthropology and philosophy were my main interests and I was lucky enough to participate in an archaeological dig in Jordan as well as a semester studying the Renaissance in Florence Italy. I graduated from Vancouver Island University in 2012 with a degree in Liberal Studies, which is a holistic study of (mostly) Western history covering religion, philosophy, literature, art, science, politics and more.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I completed a CELTA course in Thailand and taught ESL to adult Thai students. I’ve also gathered experience tutoring at North Island College working with a variety of students in various subjects, including ESL, Fine Arts, English, Tourism & Hospitality, among others.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I spend a lot of time volunteering for arts and music festivals and cultural events throughout the year. I also travel as much as possible and I am a PADI Dive Master. Diving is my true love, but I also enjoy snowboarding and hiking. When I’m not underwater or outside I’m probably working on some art project or another. I paint, draw, make jewelry and dabble in digital art and film making.
