EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that all children can learn. Children learn in different ways, so differentiating instruction is a key to student success. I want my students to leave class feeling confident and empowered to try the best, because they know that someone believes in them.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Elmhurst College in Communication Sciences and Disorders. I have experience giving over 75 hours of supervised therapy to children with speech and language disorders.
I recieved my Master of Education degree from Lipscomb University. I am certified to teach Kindergarten through sixth grade in Tennessee and Illinois, and I am certified to teach ESL to all grade levels in Tennessee.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
For two summers, I taught at a summer camp for children with Autism. They learned life skills, along with reading and math. My student teaching was in a sixth grade ESL reading and language arts classroom and a fourth grade self-contained classroom. I spent eight weeks in each rotation.
My most current teaching experience was as a certified teacher in an urban middle school. I taught fifth and sixth grade reading and social studies.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I planned and implemented a weeklong reading camp for children in fifth and sixth grade. I was also the yearbook advisor and worked with Lifetouch Photography to create a wonderful yearbook for the middle school. In addition to this, I tutor reading twice a week after school.
