Mansfield District and Curriculum
Mansfield Public Schools are comprised of four schools and almost 5,000 students. There is a primary school with grades K-2, an intermediate school with grades 3-5, a middle school, and a high school. The district is also home to the Roland Green Preschool, which provides individualized instruction to children aged three to five who have special needs. The preschool also contains children without special needs, who serve as role models for their peers. The district has put together curriculum overviews that provide a snapshot of the knowledge and skills students should gain at each grade level.
We currently cover the following Mansfield-area school district: Mansfield Public Schools.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Mansfield District Curriculum
Mansfield Public Schools have provided a list of standards for each elementary grade level that explain what students should learn and be able to do in each content area by the end of the year. These standards conform to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Each subject area is broken down into specific topics, such as language, reading and literature, and composition for English language arts; number sense and operation, geometry, and measurement for math; history, geography, civics, and economics for social studies.
Curriculum brochures are also provided for the middle school grades, but they are much more generalized. The Roland Green School works closely with Robinson Elementary’s kindergarten program and incorporates the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in its early childhood curriculum. Additionally, a technology steering committee, which involves families and members of the community, as well as educators and administrators, discusses the progress of the district in meeting its technology acquisition goals with the Director of Technology Integration.

Chalk Talk: Educational Website Spotlight: Starfall
Starfall is a website that uses a “systematic” approach to teach students phonics and phonemic awareness skills. The site is designed for students in the primary grades, which is when students receive the most direct instruction in these specific areas of literacy; older students who struggle with reading or who are English Language Learners may also benefit. Starfall has developed its own English language arts curriculum; however, many classroom teachers supplement their existing curricula with having their students play educational games on Starfall.com. The games help students with letter recognition, letter-sound correspondence, short and long vowel identification, and other aspects of phonics. Also, there are decodable stories for children to read, and as they say each word or if they get stuck, they can click on it and hear the narrator read it to them.
