Escondido District and Curriculum
The curriculum used in Escondido has been adopted by the state of California because it represents a highly successful model for setting academic achievements and ensuring that instruction and assessment is aligned to it. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Escondido District Curriculum
In English/Language Arts, the subject is organized around reading literary and informational texts, writing and revising processes, listening, and speaking. These areas helps to develop critical thinking, interpretative and analytic skills in students. In Math, students are instructed in numerical operations, algebraic operations, geometry and measurement, and statistics and probability each year. Over the years, this deepens their knowledge and draws out their mathematical reasoning skills.
In specialized programs like Advanced Placement or an Arts Program, for example, there are also curriculum that describe the expectations for learning and explain how other learning areas will be introduced to the students. In high school, students are encouraged to seek out programs and extracurriculars that support their post-secondary goals.

Keeping Informed: Recent Escondido Educational News
- Engineering and Design - The Escondido Union High School offers an interesting range of classes in Industrial Design and Engineering Arts. There are courses in Computer-Aided Design and other technical skills.
- Youth Media Festival - Students in the Escondido Union School District are able to participate in the Escondido Youth Media Festival. This is a program in which students are able to create media works and enter them into a competition which will be viewed in a festival atmosphere.
- Learning Centers - The district has installed Learning Centers throughout the district region to serve students in a variety of ways. For some they offer a place to recover course credits and for others they offer a chance to accelerate the earning of credits.
