All students have the ability to learn. Through engaging lessons and understanding a child’s background, it is possible to reach and teach all children, no matter their skill level. I also believe that all children learn differently, and it is my responsibility to figure out how best they learn so I can use those methods to move them towards success.

I have a Bachelor’s of Arts in Speech Communications I received in 1986. I went back to college to become a teacher and received my Teaching Certification in Middle Childhood Education: Language Arts and Science. I have a great passion for language arts and have attended numerous workshops on how to improve the writing process and teaching of writing to middle school students.

I have taught in the Catholic Diocese for 6 years. I taught 6th/7th grade language arts and 6th grade religion, science and health. My passion and strengths are in general science and language arts instruction. I worked closely with my teaching partner to create cross-content area lessons, so that students could delve deeper into subject areas. I also designed my own rubrics and assessments, using both UBD and SBG methodologies.

I worked for six years as a Power of the Pen coach and judge. I helped students improve their writing by having an after-school writing club. Several of my students went on to receive high honors in the state competition. I also planned a school-wide event called Family Science Day, showcasing the science instruction at the school. Lastly, I offered free Zumba exercise classes to the staff.
