Griswold District and Curriculum

Griswold Public Schools in Griswold, CT operates four schools including one elementary school, one middle school, one high school, and one alternative school. Committed to a quality educational experience for all students, Griswold Schools uses a rigorous curriculum, with on-going assessments and a variety of student services. Curriculum is developed and constantly monitored in order to meet student-learning needs. Intended to assist teachers and increase student performance, curriculum is designed by those with a stake in education including teachers of the district.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Griswold District Curriculum

All core content in Griswold Public Schools is being revised to integrate the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Focusing on higher-level thinking, research skills, evidence based arguments, and authentic learning, CCSS works to prepare all students to become career and college ready upon graduation. Reaching programs including Reading Street and PhLit are being implemented in compliance with CCSS. EnVision is an elementary math program that is being implemented in compliance with CCS. The social studies program and world history program are also being revised.

The curricular goals center on improving students’ reading and writing skills, analyzing assessment data, providing supplemental education outside of schools hours, and increasing the rigor of the math curriculum. The middle school also focuses on improving students’ literacy skills but placed reading and writing as two separate goals, delving into each skill more deeply; it also examined developing more high quality lessons and tiered instruction.

Keeping Informed: Recent Griswold Educational News

  • District Partnership with Jewett City Savings Bank - Griswold Public Schools appreciates the work they do with Jewett City Savings Bank and their continued partnership with the schools and children. The most recent donation will restore the drama program and spring musical at the high school.
  • District Celebrates Attendance Awareness Month - September is Attendance Awareness Month. Too many absences cause kids to fall behind. Take the appropriate steps to make sure your students are prepared for school and are attending each school day.
  • District Employees of the Month Honored - September employees of the month have been named for Griswold Schools. Michele Demicco and Suzanne Lacasse will be recognized for their efforts in the schools at the next board meeting. Congratulations!

The three main types of learning styles are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. Auditory learners are those who learn best through hearing information. Auditory learners like to read, follow spoken directions well, like oral reports, and are often good at memorizing information. They remember content by saying it out loud. Much of the content in school is given in an auditory manner so if you are an auditory learner then you may benefit from this traditional type of instruction.
