Chalk Talk: Bad Habits Seen in Overachievers

Students that are overachievers often do well in class, but they are often seen as perfectionists. These traits can lead to habit that parents need to help them break. First some of these students tend to procrastinate because the assignment may not be perfect. Parents need to encourage them to let go or to move on. Parents need to be also aware when the child stays up late to study. Parents need to remind the child that sleep helps retention. Overachievers also are filled with self-doubt due to expectations they place on themselves. Parents need to talk with them bout challenges and errors everyone makes. By looking for these and other of these habits, parents can know what to talk about with the child. If in doubt talk with a counselor or administrator and continually follow up with your child.
