EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

I am a strong believer that every child is able to learn if the teaching approach is appropriately adapted or modified to meet the needs of each and every child.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I received a Masters of Education from the University of Saskatchewan in November of 2012. Before that, I received my Bachelors of Education from the University of British Columbia in 2006 and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Lethbridge in 2003.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught pretty much or worked with a student in every grade from kindergarten to grade 12. My main focus over the past six years has been working with low and high incidence students (Autism, Aspergers, Behavioural disorders, ADD/ADHD, Chronic Health, Speech/Hearing) with individualized educational plans (IEP). I have been lucky to work with a variety of students and teachers that have helped me improve my teaching skills.

I tutor students in high school in all subjects (English, Math, and Science) to help them achieve a good grade to enable them to graduate, and I have been in charge of designing programs and training Educational Assistants to administer programming appropriately. This year, my focus was Science 10, English 10,11 and 12. I worked extensively with ESL students and students with learning disabilities in reading. My focus was targeting exactly where we needed to focus on (using reading assessment) and teaching proper study skills and reading skills to enable each student to pass. Each student had a different learning plan which involved technology and constant supervision from me (via email, text or in person). I was also involved in helping teachers learn how to teach in a blended classroom with a variety of students (adapted and modified students).

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

I am an avid snowboarder, mountain biker, runner and simply love anything that is outdoors. I work closely with my students in promoting physical activity and teach them the countless benefits of physical activity and their brain activity. I work with many students with ADD and ADHD and I have them on a rigorous physical activity plan that has proven beneficial in their learning. I also have tried to connect students with their environment by promoting gardening in a community garden.
