All students can learn; some just need to be able to demonstrate their understanding in a variety of ways. Standardized tests limit students’ abilities to think creatively and demonstrate understanding through problem-based assessments.

I graduated with honors from a large public high school in rural North Carolina. I completed my bachelors degree in Biology from High Point University. I later returned to High Point to secure my teaching license. In 2009, I became a National Board Certified Teacher.

I have been a classroom teacher for 18 years. I have taught everything from Applied Chemistry to IB Biology. Currently I teach Earth & Environmental Science in a large inner city high school.

I have been a volleyball and basketball head coach. Most recently, heart lies in helping at-risk students find success. I am the liaison for an organization called Right Moves for Youth.
