Sandown District and Curriculum

The NH College and Career Ready Standards is used as the curriculum for Timberlane Regional School District. The Standards cover all academic subjects, and align with Common Core Standards in Math and Language Arts. The standards, or learning objectives, represent the major skills, concepts, and critical thinking approaches that students should develop proficiency in. The curriculum is progressive in that it follows along the same major topics from elementary to high school so that the foundations young students work on are the basis for the more complex and independent work they do in high school.

We currently cover the following Sandown-area school district: Timberlane Regional School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Sandown District Curriculum

The Timberlane Regional High School community values the academic, personal, creative, and social growth of all students. Students are expected to write effectively across a variety of subjects, locate and gather information, and use problem-solving strategies effectively. They are expected to be scientifically literate and work through problems using a process approach. Students are taught the foundations of mathematics so that they understand how and why the math works and can build on that for success.

Students are held to high academic standards and are given clear expectations for what they should learn by the end of each year. They are also held to high social expectations and are expected to make healthy decisions about their lives and their personal interactions. Students are expected to put forward their best efforts and be involved members of the school and the wider community. Chalk Talk: Talking with Teachers

Each school year give students a chance to meet a new teacher. The same is true for the parents. By establishing a relationship with the teacher parents show the importance of education to their children which helps the child do better in school. To begin this relationship, parents need to make an appointment to meet with the teacher. At this meeting, try to word comments with “I” statements, otherwise the comments may be taken as criticism. This is also a time to come up with goals for the child and to find the best way to help the child at home. Parents should bring a list of items to talk about so that points aren’t forgotten. It is important for parents to remember to listen to the teacher, pay attention without interrupting. This does not mean everything has to be agreed upon, but by listening, the parent may see that some things that they questioned all right.
