Country Club District and Curriculum
Students attending Miami-Dade County Public Schools receive a broad education in areas that include foreign languages, science, mathematics, and many other topics. Independent thinking and problem-solving skills are core aspects of all courses and reading and writing skills are particularly emphasized. A wide variety of electives also allows students to become knowledgeable and worldly citizens. Engaging lessons help students acquire these essential skills and knowledge, and foster an appreciation for lifelong learning as well.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Country Club District Curriculum
Technology is used to enhance the curriculum provided in Miami-Dade County Public Schools, particularly through computer education courses. Digital citizenship is a focus area as well. Students learn about the ethical use of technology and how to keep themselves and their personal information safe when using digital devices. Students can choose to take an AP course in computer science for college credit or a design technology course for credit towards an International Baccalaureate certificate. Courses will focus on designing and implementing programs and solutions to given problems.
Students can interact with their peers as a peer counselor or join the JROTC to develop awareness of military techniques and procedures. Participation in team building exercises will also increase decision-making and leadership skills. Peer counselors also have the opportunity develop conflict resolution and intervention skills.

- Goleman Student Bowls Her Way to Victory - A student from Goleman High School is now a District 16 champion. Before becoming a district champion, she won team MVP for three seasons as a captain of the Gators bowling team. She has also made history by being crowned the first female athlete to be All-Dade for three consecutive seasons.
- Lawton Students Compete in Math Bonanza - Students from Lawton Chiles Middle School recently competed in the Math Bonanza Competition. Both teachers and students worked hard to prepare and it showed when one student placed 3rd in the competition. Great job!
- Student of the Year Comes From Bob Graham - The Youth Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County selected a Bob Graham Education Center student to recognize this year. The student is commended for his student leadership and dedication to the organization. For his efforts, he will be presented with the Youth Crime Watch Exemplary Middle School Student of the Year Award.

Chalk Talk: How to Brainstorm
Before writing an essay or some other literary work, you may find that you have trouble coming up with ideas or that you have too many and need to settle on one. In these cases, brainstorming is one process that can help you to organize your thoughts coherently. There are many techniques that can help you brainstorm, such as freewriting and the 5 Wh-questions. Freewriting is a process in which you let your thoughts flow freely and write down whatever comes to mind. Spelling, grammar, and other style issues are not important. You can set a time or space limit if you’d like as well. When you’re finished, read over your thoughts. You will most likely find that a lot of what you’ve written is unusable but there are usually several helpful ideas for your essay. The five Wh-questions consist of who, what, when, where, and why. Many times it is also helpful to include the question “How”? Answering these questions as they relate to your topic is a great way to come up with ideas and organize your paper.
