Jenison District and Curriculum
Jenison Public Schools (JPS) provide education from preschool to grade twelve. JPS adheres to the requirements of the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Highlights of the curriculum include technology education and literacy. The district provides opportunities to use current technological tools, such as Chromebooks, iPads, Macbook Pro tablets, and Classroom Voice Enhancement. Literacy in all subjects is a key objective in the JPS curriculum, so students regularly participate in close reading and writing exercises.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Jenison District Curriculum
Highlights of the elementary curriculum include foundational core academic instruction, intervention support services (RTI), advanced programs (ACT), Spanish immersion for fourth and fifth grades, and transitional kindergarten. Students also have access to technology education, music, art, and physical education. The preschool program offers structured/non-structured, full-day/part-day services for three- and four-year-old children.
The secondary curriculum is designed to provide increasing rigor and exploratory options to grades seven through twelve. Jenison Junior High School (JJHS) students receive instruction in core academic courses, character education, art, music, foreign languages, leadership education, life skills, physical education, and technology education. JJHS also provides students with honors classes (Challenge) and RTI. The high school curriculum prepares students for college and/or career readiness. Students at Jenison High School (JHS) may take courses in the following departments: applied technology, art, business education, family and consumer science, foreign languages, music, physical education, language arts, science, mathematics, and social studies.

- Students Get Chance to Shop for Christmas - Students with economic challenges, from Jenison Public Schools and surrounding areas, each received $75 to shop for the holidays. Grant money from Wal-Mart, GHPS, and an anonymous donor made it possible for Grand Haven Township deputies to take the children to Wal-Mart.
- Jenison Students Visit Local College to Learn about Engineering Innovations - Students from Jenison Public Schools, and other area schools, attended Grand Valley State University in early December to see an array of innovative technologies. Among the college’s displayed projects were a “hug” chair for autistic children, an EEG and ECG, a device that helps people get out of hospital beds, and a computerized Tic-Tac-Toe game.
- Jenison Schools to Receive Funding for Essentials - Jenison Public School community members recently voted to allot the district $33 million to improve its facilities. The district plans to purchase new carpet, buses, roofs, a high school physical education classroom, and a performing arts center.

When creating a science fair project, it is essential to determine a plan. What interests you most? Would you like to create something mechanical? Are you interested in computers? Do living things interest you more? Do you like working with chemical reactions? Regardless of your interests, it is important to identify your passions so that you can create an interesting project with a lot of energy behind it. After choosing a topic, you will create a project that meets scientific criteria. Will the project be original? Will it advance society? Do scientific principles and facts support your experiment? What is your hypothesis? Creating a project via the Scientific Method will help you organize. After determining your project’s focus, steps of action, and intended outcome, you will need to gather materials (think safety!) and informational resources.
