Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Leesburg District Curriculum
In math courses, kindergarten students begin their educational career by studying whole numbers and developing the abilities to analyze and describe shapes and space. They may accomplish this through the use of models and comparisons. In middle school, students study concepts that may include ratios, fractions, and expressions and equations. As they progress through high school, students expand their awareness of more complex topic areas, such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics.
Lake County Schools also provide students with opportunities to learn and observe and analyze the world around them in science courses. Reasoning and critiquing skills are enhanced in courses that consist of topics such as biology, earth and space science, and physical sciences. Elementary students may work in groups to measure and compare living things and properties of the natural world. Middle and high school science courses may include a laboratory component in which students identify, measure, and interpret data in a variety of experiments.

Chalk Talk: How to Get a Good Score on the Reading Portion of the SAT/ACT
Getting a good score on the reading portion of the SAT or ACT is often achieved through the careful use of strategies. These strategies may differ for each type of question, but many can be used throughout the test. For many, sentence completion questions take less time to answer than those that are included with a reading passage. Therefore, it can be helpful is to answer those questions first. Sentence completion questions also tend to increase in difficulty as you progress and the last few questions may contain more words that you don’t know. Increasing your vocabulary before the test may help you answer more questions correctly. Also, if there are two or three blanks in a sentence, look at one blank’s answer choices and see if there is an answer that relates to it in the other blank’s answer choices.
