Lehigh Acres District and Curriculum
Lee County students receive a broad education that emphasizes critical thinking and decision-making skills in mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, and many other areas. Kindergarten students begin learning about themselves and the many ways in which they relate to their community in social studies courses. As they advance in grade level, their awareness of concepts in sociology, economics, history, and geography is expanded through the evaluation of multiple sources of information and the exchange of ideas formulated from given texts.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lehigh Acres District Curriculum
Science courses give students many opportunities to develop skills in the area of scientific inquiry, research, and measurement. Elementary school students may achieve this through observation and investigation of the natural world and the human body. As students progress, they may conduct experiments of their own in laboratory classes that require them to gather and interpret data. High school science courses discuss concepts in biology, earth and space science, physics, and chemistry.
Students with artistic talents can also choose to take electives in areas that include visual arts, dance, drama, and music. Emphasis is put on specific techniques and the creation of original work. Students are expected to refine and critique their work, in addition to accepting feedback from others. Student produced artistic works are then presented in performances.

- East Lee County High School Receives Donations - Southeast Petro Distributors and ExxonMobil supported students in Lee County this year with a monetary donation. The $500 check was presented to East Lee County High School’s principal by the Brand Manager for Southeast Petro. The money will be used for the math and science programs.
- JROTC Students Have New Training Equipment - East Lee County High School students is the new home of the East Lee Leadership Academy outdoor training complex. The complex consists of a 65-ft rappel tower, covered outdoor classroom, and enclosed marksmanship range. It will be used to train JROTC cadets to rappel, use the zip line, and climb the rock wall.
- VLMS Track Teams Are County Champions Again - The Varsity Lakes Middle School girls’ and boys’ track teams are champions once again! The girls’ team won their 7th straight county title and did especially well in the throwing events. The boys’ team won their 8th straight county title and set school records in the 6th and 7th grade 4x100 meter relay, 7th grade 4x400 meter relay, 7th grade shot put, 8th grade long jump, and 7th grade 400 meter.

Chalk Talk: How to Write Concisely
Writing that is concise does not necessarily use the fewest amount of words. The strongest and most effective words will make any work more readable. This may mean that you should replace vague words with those that are more descriptive or specific. Repetitive and/or redundant wording should also be found and either removed or replaced with synonyms. For example, the phrases “past memories”, various differences”, and “unexpected surprise,” can all be changed to shorter phrases. A thesaurus can be especially helpful for these tasks. One method that can help a writer find out whether certain words are needed is to determine that they are essential to explaining a situation or statement in your essay. For example, with the sentence “She wrote about the various ways and methods for creating artwork with several different mediums,” can become “She wrote about the various methods for creating artwork with different mediums.” Sometimes sentences can also be combined or changed in some way as well. All of these tips can help a writer to compose an essay that communicates their point both effectively and concisely.
