Golden Gate District and Curriculum
Collier County Public Schools encompass all schools in this county, which is located in Southwestern Florida. Golden Gate is a community near Naples, FL; Golden Gate Elementary, Middle, and High schools are a part of this school district and follow both state and national standards for learning. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Golden Gate District Curriculum
During their education students will be assessed on their learning through many different assessments: the ACT, the Comprehensive English Language Learning Assessment (CELLA), Collier Writes (prepares fourth, eighth, and tenth graders for a standardized writing assessment and is aligned with the state writing standards), Florida End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments (computer-based, criterion-referenced assessments that measure college and career readiness), FAIR (Florida Assessments for Instruction in Reading ) (a reading diagnostic test developed in part by the Florida Center for Reading Research for teachers and reading specialists), and the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test® 2.0 (Florida’s state standardized exam that includes literacy, math, and science and measures student achievement.
The Assessment & Data Measurement section of the website also provides testing resources, test results, information about student progress monitoring, information on how research is conducted within the district, and program evaluation and survey results. Finally, the district encourages teachers to utilize CPALMS, which provides educator toolkits for each grade level to assist them in effectively incorporating the standards in their classrooms.

- Golden Gate High Hires Former Olympian As Coach - Paul Sehzue was named one of the head coaches for Golden Gate High’s boys’ track and field team. He was not only a highly accomplished athlete at his alma mater, the University of Toledo, but even competed for Liberia in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, reaching the quarterfinals in the 110-meter hurdles.
- Former Golden Gate Student Inspired to Become Doctor - A former Golden Gate High student, who graduated as part of the Class of 2012, decided he wanted to become a doctor after visiting Haiti and Ghana—countries that lacked medical clinics and care. He hoped to improve medicine in these nations to cut down the number of deaths that were occurring. The outstanding student finished third in his graduating class, took four A.P. courses in his senior year, and had a 4.85 GPA.
- Golden Gate High Named an ‘A’ School for First Time - In 2013, Golden Gate High achieved a ranking of an ‘A’ school for the first time in its 10-year history. Years of disappointing grades and standardized test scores began to change when football coach and teacher Mike DiGrigoli found success on the football field and decided to apply his strategy in the classroom, urging everyone in the school to challenge their students and instill a sense of trust. Basketball coach Greg Anderson heads up the program “AVID” students in which all students are taking A.P., honors, or advanced courses.

Is it time to think about what you would like to do as a career and you are thinking about teaching? It is a requirement for all teachers to “love kids,” but there is much more to it than just that. Even if you enjoy playing with and baby-sitting your little siblings, nieces and nephews, neighbors’’ children, etc., teaching is about instilling knowledge in kids and shaping their future. Generally, teaching is a rather low-paying position, especially when you are just starting out, so make sure it is something you are truly passionate about. You will not be rewarded by becoming rich but by making a difference in children’s lives. Also, there is sometimes a perception that teaching, particularly at the elementary level, is an “easy” job with time off for holidays and the summer months as well as decent hours. This cannot be farther from the truth, as teachers have to dedicate hours outside of the classroom to designing lesson plans, creating instructional materials, grading work, communicating with parents, shaping their classroom management plan, reading research, and looking for classroom ideas.
