Okaloosa County School District is comprised of all of the schools located in this Northwestern Florida county. The schools located in Fort Walton, FL are Fort Walton Beach High School, Max Bruner Jr. Middle School, and Pryor Middle School. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Fort Walton Beach District Curriculum
The district offers curriculum guides that describe the courses students will be taking. It also offers a stand-alone Engineers for America (EFA) STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Medical) Center that will allow for EFA educator training events, expanded experiments, elementary student involvement, and collaboration and partnerships with communities. The EFA program allows students to participate in hands-on activities, including field trips, related to aerospace engineering.
The crux of the EFA program is to teach students how to conduct formal experiments referred to as “sorties,” which contain five parts: the teacher’s lesson plan, students’ lesson packet, instruments for collecting data specifically for the activity, any necessary templates or patterns, and a teacher post-visit form. Students perform three or four experiments as a part of every sortie, and the process aligns with the state standards and learning expectations.

- Pryor Middle School Students Look for “Who Done It” - In an Advanced Placement CSI course, students have a chance to act as forensic scientists with a mock crime scene. Students not only use forensic science but also math and argumentative oral and writing skills.
- Pryor Students Honor Veterans - Pryor Middle School’s Veteran’s Day event commenced with three students in the new JROTC program taking practiced steps and raising the flag. These students were joined by 40 other people as well as the band and chorus at the area around the flagpole, which was recently updated with engraved bricks. A former School Board member who is also a veteran gave a speech.
- Pryor Middle Schooler Leads By Example - A 12-year-old seventh grader at Pryor Middle School enjoys giving back to others and setting an example of how to be respectful and do the right things to younger children. In addition to helping younger children at his local Boys and Girls Club, he helps out in the front office, answering the phone and entering data into the computer. The outstanding student also volunteers as an usher at his church.

Chalk Talk: How School Districts Are Structured
School districts are structured differently, but most include at least one elementary school (often many more), one or two middle schools, and a high school. Some districts are very large and may include dozens of elementary schools and several middle and high schools; many Florida public districts are like this, as they serve entire counties. Elementary schools may house all children from kindergarten up to grades four, five, or six (it is becoming less common to see sixth graders in elementary schools). Many districts may choose to break up elementary-aged students and have separate schools housing grades K-2 (primary) and 3-5 (intermediate); of course, these grade bands may vary. Middle schools generally contain students from grades five or six up to eighth grade, while high schools usually house those in grades 9-12; although, more rarely, middle schools may also include ninth grade. Sometimes, middle and high school students may be combined in a single building but in separate wings; these schools may be referred to as middle-high schools. Private and charter schools, which stand alone and are not part of a district, generally contain more grades, as there are fewer students.
