Odenton’s K-12 students attend school in the Anne Arundel County Public School system. The district is well respected and widely known for its high academic standards and the level of achievement its students attain. Each student is challenged to achieve his or her highest possible potential. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Odenton District Curriculum
Odenton’s middle school English language arts curriculum is based on the Common Core State Standards. These standards delineate what each student should learn and know at each grade. A central focus is helping students acquire the skills they need to effectively read informational texts. Students learn how to preview texts, identify the purpose of their reading, and drawing connections between prior knowledge and that which appears in their readings. They acquire the ability to explain the central idea of what they have read and draw inferences about the text they are reading.
The fine arts curriculum in Odenton includes a study of the visual arts. Elementary aged students learn basic artistic principles, including aesthetics, colors, lines, shapes, and forms. Students learn how art is an expression of the artist’s mood, emotions, feelings, and imagination, and how those influences determine the aesthetics of a piece of art. Learners also experiment with different techniques to produce their own art. Students manipulate various materials as well, exploring the various uses of paints, charcoals, clay, and other materials to develop their artwork.

- Blue Ribbon Schools Announced - The 2014-15 National Blue Ribbon Schools have been announced, and Linthicum Elementary School is on the list. Anne Arundel County Public Schools now has 13 schools that have been awarded the National Blue Ribbon.

Taking out student loans or relying on scholarships is not the only way students can pay for their college education. Many alternative options are available and present unique opportunities to get college credit without spending a lot of money. Advanced Placement courses are a great way to earn college credit for little to no money. So long as a student attains a high enough score on the AP exam, they are eligible to receive college credit. Some high schools also offer dual credit courses, which allow students to get both high school and college credit at the same time. Many of these courses are offered free of charge, so long as the high school student passes the course. Another great option for saving on college expenses is to attend a community college the first year or two. Community colleges are vastly less expensive than universities, but still offer all the general education courses students usually need to take during their freshman and sophomore years of college.
