Chalk Talk: Benefits of Private College

Private colleges tend to be more selective than public universities, but the benefit for many students is that private colleges also tend to be more focused on student support. This means that they offer many support opportunities, but also because of their nature, tend to be better for some students. Private colleges tend to be smaller, and as such, have smaller class sizes. Many students find it easier to do well in smaller classes; they find their professors to be more accessible and helpful and are able to build relationships with their professors in order to seek out help. They also often enjoy the tight knit community in which to take that last step before transitioning to a fully independent adulthood. Private colleges tend to individualize students’ learning experience, in general, which can be helpful for students’ success.
