North Decatur District and Curriculum
DeKalb County Schools strive to provide courses that teach problem-solving, reasoning and strategies, as well as conceptual understanding of several areas in mathematics. In language arts, literacy and communication skills that can be used in all subjects are emphasized and there is an increased focus on non-fiction. The sciences offer students the chance to learn the scientific process, and about the knowledge within the different areas of science like biology, chemistry and physics. Social studies and history allows students to explore the world they live in and understand the historical background of modern events.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the North Decatur District Curriculum
In elementary school, students will gain the ability to solve basic problems using simple mathematical operations, in addition to recognizing all types of shapes and numbers. Middle school courses use models and graphs to reinforce associations between functions and other equations. Theorems will also be introduced at this grade level. High school courses explore advanced topics in areas that include algebra, pre-calculus, and geometry. Methods of incorporating technology through the use of graphing calculators and other software is also be examined so students are familiar with computational tools.
In social studies courses, students will study the effects of past historical acts on the present and potential future. The topic areas of geography, government, and economic will be given much attention in grades K-5. A variety of sources will be given to students in an attempt to encourage multiple perspectives on these topics. Middle school courses will begin to explore World History and compare geographic characteristics of other countries and their governments to the U.S. As they progress to high school, students will focus on U.S. and World History and government.

- Druid Hills High School Senior Is Recognized - The Atlanta INtown paper is recognizing the contributions that a senior from Druid Hills High School has made to their community. The student joins 19 others as one of the 7th annual 20th under 20 honorees. Congratulations!
- National Honor Society Holds Canned Food Drive - The National Honor Society at Druid Hills High School held a canned food drive recently and it was a huge success! 1950 cans and other non-perishable items were donated, with one class contributing over 1000 cans alone. The items will be donated to the Decatur Cooperative Ministry.
- DHMS Students Win Spots in All-State Middle School Orchestra - Two students from Druid Hills Middle School will be a part of the 2015 Georgia All-State Middle School Orchestra. The students went to two auditions before winning the honor. In March, they will travel to Athens for 3 days of rehearsals and concerts.

This means that they offer many support opportunities, but also because of their nature, tend to be better for some students. Many students find it easier to do well in smaller classes; they find their professors to be more accessible and helpful and are able to build relationships with their professors in order to seek out help. They also often enjoy the tight knit community in which to take that last step before transitioning to a fully independent adulthood. Private colleges tend to individualize students’ learning experience, in general, which can be helpful for students’ success.
