I believe students should be able to see the connection between their school work and the practical applications in the “real world.” I also want to instill a love of words and how written expression is an integral part of being human.

I graduated as an honor student in 1990 from Concord College in Athens, WV. In 2000, I received my Master’s Degree in library and information science from the University of South Carolina.

I taught in the public school system for a year, then taught library workshops for the past 19 years. I began teaching basic writing workshops last year for the University of Charleston-Beckley.

I am sponsor of the Gamma Beta Phi honor society at UC-B. GBP is a community-service oriented honor society for college students. Our projects include reading in the public school system and food drives for the local animal shelter.
