Part of my role as an instructor is to provide multiple opportunities for students to engage with content. I believe that students learn when they are actively engaged in creating meaning, a process which in my experience largely involves dialogue. Students’ learning is personal to them, and in my teaching I make an effort to help students align learning objectives with their individual goals so that the content becomes more relevant to them, thus increasing their motivation to learn.

I have a doctoral degree in Teaching & Teacher Education from the University of Arizona, and a Bachelor’s degree in Astrophysics from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. In addition, I regularly receive professional development from attending and presenting at conferences related to the field of education.

I have ten years of experience teaching math and science at the college level, including three years as a full-time math faculty member at a tribal college. The majority of my students are adults, but I have also worked with younger students in museums, summer camps, and extracurricular activities, such as the MESA program.

I love stargazing, especially while camping, and I’m a huge fan of logic puzzles of all kinds! I am married and have two cats, and I like to read, write and watch movies in my spare time.
