EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that all children and adults can learn if they embrace the opportunity and have a desire for personal growth. I believe that each individual has unique talents and capabilities, some realized and some yet to be discovered, that can be developed over time through quality instruction and personal effort.
I believe that as individuals, it is important to learn to take setbacks in stride and to continue to make progress, applying a growth mindset to every challenging situation and/or opportunity that comes into our lives. I believe that all people should be lifelong learners, setting a goal to be the best person that they can become.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from Lynchburg College. My first Master’s Degree is a Masters of Science in Teaching that focused on reading strategies and differentiation to promote learning. My second Master’s Degree is in Educational Leadership.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have over ten years of experience in classroom teaching. I typically work with small groups of students focusing on reading and math remediation. I have experience teaching decoding skills as well as reading comprehension.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I have worked with students in after school activities including tutoring, after school clubs such as the School Dance Team, and supporting students during athletic events. I believe that it is important for kids to explore interests outside of academics and develop skills they cannot learn in the classroom.
