Girard District and Curriculum
Girard City Schools includes one elementary school, one intermediate school, and a junior/senior high school. Each school facility affords students a safe place in which they can learn and grow. Teachers and staff members work hard to create an environment in which all students are comfortable, feel welcomed, and are respected. There is a strong emphasis on developing learners that are responsible, critical thinkers. To achieve this end, students participate in a challenging curriculum that prepares them for the rigors of college and career. Classroom learning is supplemented by real-life activities that encourage discovery and exploration, and help students make connections between what they learn in class and how that is applied to real life.
We currently cover the following Girard-area school district: Girard City Schools.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Girard District Curriculum
The science curriculum introduces students to topics and investigation methods in biology, physical science, chemistry and physics. Students explore concepts such as energy and waves. Reflection, refraction, diffraction, and other characteristics of waves are explored. Learners work with electricity to determine how electrons move and how resistors transfer energy. The conservation of energy is also explored, with students learning how to quantify both kinetic and gravitational energy.
The visual arts curriculum in Girard introduces students to various aspects of creating art. In middle school, students work on developing the skills necessary to demonstrate technical skill and craftsmanship in their chosen medium. Students experiment with various techniques to create original art. To gain inspiration, learners examine the work of their peers, as well as seminal works in art history to get a feel for how other artists have developed their craft. The process of planning a piece of artwork is also emphasized.

Chalk Talk: Helping Teens Develop Good Sleep Habits
Even if they are tired, it can be difficult for teens to fall asleep before 11:00, so they should try to practice relaxing habits before they go to bed. Parents should ban their children from using electronics, such as computers, iPhones, cell phones, and even TVs, at least an hour before they go to sleep; these items can greatly inhibit sleep. Although it would be unrealistic to expect teens to practice mediation or the like, it would be beneficial for them to read, listen to soft music, or take a warm bath before going to bed. Also, the lights should be turned down low. Parents should make sure their children have their homework done well before their bedtime (this can be tricky if they are involved in a lot of activities) and that they are not overwhelmed with too many extracurricular activities. So that teens can get as much sleep as possible, they should have their backpacks and belongings prepared and clothes laid out from the night before.
