Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Tipp City District Curriculum

The math curriculum in Tipp City begins in kindergarten, where children become familiarized with basic mathematical concepts. Children learn number names and their sequence, and acquire an understanding of counting and cardinality. Learners are introduced to quantity, and develop the ability to compare numbers by counting objects. Addition and subtraction are introduced as well. Basic measurement and data processes are introduced as well. Children learn how to describe measurable attributes of an object, and how to classify objects based on those attributes.

As part of the district’s science curriculum, high school students have the opportunity to study physical geology. Students examine minerals in depth and learn about atoms and elements, as well as the types of chemical bonds present in various minerals. Students look at crystalline structures, and hardness, cleavage, fluorescence, and other mineral properties. Learners also analyze various forms of rocks. Students examine igneous rocks to determine if they are mafic or felsic in nature.

Keeping Informed: Recent Tipp City Educational News

  • Blizzard Bags Available - When bad weather forces the cancellation of school, Tipp City students can complete assignments from the Blizzard Bag. Assignments from the Blizzard Bag will be made available online, and teachers will be online periodically to answer any questions.
  • Miami County Science Fair a Success - The annual Miami County Science Day was recently held, with many 5-12 students participating. Dozens of students received superior ratings, and are eligible to compete at the district level science fair.
  • Students Selected to Honor Band in State Events - Students from Tippecanoe High School recently participated in the District 11 Honor Band. Thirteen musicians from the school represented Tipp City and had the chance to perform with top music students from across the state.
