The curriculum at Anna Independent School District is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. This allows the school to create materials that will allow the students to achieve excellence. To keep pace with an increasingly globalized and technological world, the schools have concentrated on updating technology in each school building, which now offer students state-of-the-art computer labs. This well-rounded education is supplemented by excellent extracurricular activities that offer additional venues for students to learn and grow. With the support and guidance of dedicated teachers and staff, students in Anna have all the opportunities they need to develop into well rounded adults that contribute positively to the community in which they live.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Anna District Curriculum
Students at Anna Independent School District are exposed to the world of literature through the English curriculum. From elementary through high school, students learn how to create plot diagrams, to find the themes, location and characters in a story. In high school they learn how to combine various subjects through stories such as Anne Bradstreet poetry or "How the World was Made." The skills they develop enable the students to break down any reading they face to find the answers they need.
The science curriculum is designed to introduce students to the world from a different perspective. Students begin by looking at the physical characteristics of item. They then build onto this by looking at the cycles that help to create the item being examined. From here the study of science continues on to look at the molecules and atoms that are included in every item on earth and in the environment. This includes how elements react with other elements. Through learning how to look at the world as scientists do, students also learn to look at other things in their lives closely.

Chalk Talk: IDEA in Education
IDEA stands for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. This piece of legislation gives students with physical or mental disabilities the right to a full public education in the "least restrictive environment." The least restrictive environment is typically the general education classroom. According to IDEA, schools must first attempt to acclimate and educate all students in the general education classroom. If this proves unsuccessful--after the child is given all the supports and accommodations he/she needs--the next level up may involve a special education teacher working with the child one-on-one while he/she remains in the regular classroom. The next level is the student being educated in the special education classroom. The most restrictive environment would be a school entirely dedicated to students with certain challenges. IDEA exists to give all students a fair chance to succeed in the general education classroom first, which is important as taking them out of this environment can isolate them from their peers and possibly lead to them getting behind in certain academic areas.
