EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that all students have the right to learn. That being said, I especially believe that all students have the right to learn math in an environment where they feel safe taking risks and making mistakes. In my classroom, students know that making mistakes is part of the process for learning math and that learning takes time. If they are committed to working hard and being open to trying new things, I promise to stay committed to their education and providing them learning opportunities.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I graduated in 2012 from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Mathematics. I again graduated in 2013 with a Master’s in Math Education. Throughout my undergraduate college years I became aware of the vast lacking for qualified and passionate math educators, which led to my choice of mastering in math education. I am a certified teacher in the state of Arizona.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
For the last two years I have been teaching 7th and 8th graders the content of high school math courses, but in a middle school setting. This year, I am also teaching grade level math for 8th graders (pre-algebra). Before I was in the middle school, I taught Advanced Algebra 2 in a high school setting. In college I was tutoring all math from levels ranging from College Algebra to Calculus 2.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
In my free time, I run an after school Origami club (Japanese paper folding). I also coach an Odyssey of the Mind structure team. I recently adopted a dog that I spend as much time as possible with and I also enjoy spending time with my family. My hobbies include: making jewelry, knitting, crafting of any kind, fashion, and interior decorating.
