Newfane District and Curriculum
The Newfane Central School District has created a curriculum to challenge students and provide them with many opportunities to explore their interests. Instruction adheres to state requirements and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Their primary curriculum focuses on literacy—reading and writing expectations—in all subjects, as well as foundational instruction in mathematics, social studies, and science. Students in the middle school have opportunities to take Spanish, home and careers, technology, physical education and health, speech, and special education courses, as well as core academics. In all subjects, the complexity of topics increases but students remained focused on the major strands of each subject.
We currently cover the following Newfane-area school district: Newfane Central School District.

Instruction at Newfane Senior High School consists of rigorous core academic coursework and many electives options for students to prepare for post-secondary education and work. For a fee, students can earn college credits in a variety of collegiate level courses and may take Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Students can also enroll in AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), which is a yearlong program that promotes organization, note-taking skills, and other essential education to prepare students for courses that are more rigorous. Students may also enroll in vocational training via the local BOCES.
The district also emphasizes the integration of the arts into learning to help develop the creative and collaborative skills of students. This gives students examine their creative work, identifying their strengths and weaknesses. This self-assessment helps form the basis for the creation of the student’s portfolio. The cultural influences on art are examined as well. Chalk Talk: How to Stay Organized
Students should categorize notes by class and keep homework separate from other handouts. Students need to find a system that works best for them; they may find it beneficial to have a single homework folder, while others need to separate all work by class. All notes should be labeled and kept together, with dates. It is important to keep a calendar with homework due dates, test and quiz dates, and other important information. Don’t forget to check your calendar daily! Being organized also includes creating a work space. A quiet, clean, comfortable place is best. Sometimes students prefer to listen to music, which is fine, but make sure that other distractions don’t keep you from your tasks. Last, make sure you have a place to keep your books, notepads, folders, etc. Make sure your locker remains clean and orderly. Use cubbies or bins at home. And don’t forget to keep your backpack orderly; it would be a shame to do all that work only to lose it en-route.
