One part of the curriculum at Lamar Consolidated Independent School District is history. The educators use a variety of resources to make history come to life for the students. Whether it is literature, newspapers, films or primary sources, the students become aware of the people and events that make up this subject. They also take the information from these sources to then research a person well enough to debate an issue from that historical person's viewpoint. When they enter their career of choice, these students will be aware of the difference one person can make in history.
The science curriculum at Lamar Consolidated Independent School District includes the subjects of biology, physics and chemistry. Each of these are taught from the general aspect of the subjects to more specifics. In the study of biology, the students begin by looking at the entire body, or plant. From here the students will look at the general parts that make up the whole. By the time they graduate, they will have discovered the molecules and atoms that are found in each and the purpose of these to help the item to live.

- Common Threads - Common Threads is a community outreach endeavor that seeks donations of gently used clothing which they make available to members of the community who are in financial need. All sorts of clothes for children ages 4-18, including belts, purses, and other common accessories are welcome.
- Gold Card Club - The Gold Card Club is an opportunity for older adults in the community to stay involved in the schools and the education of the younger generation. Gold Card Club members receive free admission to most cultural and athletic events, and are always welcome to volunteer in the schools.
- Opportunities for Parental Involvement - The district has a number of advisory committees that parents can serve on and help steer the direction of the district and its goals. Committees include the Attendance Boundary Committee, the Career And Technology Education (CATE) Advisory Council, the Districtwide Student Improvement Council and many others.

Parents should be positive about the efforts that the child made, and correct them in a neutral tone so they don't feel embarrassed or upset. Many discoveries have been made by people making mistakes. If parents help a child see that the error helped the child learn something about a topic. Children need to be reminded of how much they have learned in their lives, many times by trying something again and again until they learned a better way of doing something. In order to learn something new, they may have to be open to exploring the options that are open to them.
