Macedon District and Curriculum
Residents of the Town of Macedon will attend either the Gananda or Palmyra-Macedon (Pal-Mac) Central School Districts. Gananda and Palmyra-Macedon School Districts provide students with up-to-date curricular activities consistent with the requirements determined by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). With its recent adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the NYSED has implemented their state Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) to prepare students to be successful beyond the classroom. Focusing on literacy and logic, students will learn developmentally appropriate skills for each grade level, ultimately preparing for post-secondary education and work.
We currently cover the following Macedon-area school districts: Gananda Central School District and Palmyra-Macedon Central School District.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Macedon District Curriculum
Curriculum in the districts begins with instruction that nurtures the whole child, providing social and emotional support, as well as academic. Students have access to a variety of tools, including various technologies and media. Special education, academic intervention services (AIS), and other resources are also available to each student. At the primary level, students receive scaffolded instruction in the core academic subjects.
At the secondary level, each middle and high school offers students with coursework that increases in rigor and provides them with opportunities to explore future careers. At Pal-Mac, students ages 11 to 16 have the opportunity benefit from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme for accelerated coursework, and students at both district’s high schools may take Advanced Placement (AP) courses. For graduation, students are required to take courses in English language arts, science, social studies, mathematics, physical education/health, art/music, and languages other than English, and a series of electives courses. Students also have access to career and technical training and business education.

Chalk Talk: How to Focus Better
Attention to detail comes naturally to some learners, while others struggle to dot their I’s and cross their T’s. Producing clean, clear, and correct work is impossible with errors. Paying attention to the minute details of an assignment (or test or resume) could be the difference between a passing and failing grade (or getting called for an interview). To provide detail, it is important to focus, and focusing is a difficult task in today’s high-tech environment. Cell phones, iPods, computers, televisions, and other devices can drag our attention away from its goal, creating costly mistakes. Even distracted driving is gaining more attention as people attempt to multi-task with brains that work better with one or two responsibilities. The key to focus is outlining a goal: what is it that you wish to accomplish? Set aside a time limit for yourself and work only on that task.
