Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Hidalgo District Curriculum
In world languages, to facilitate development of speaking skills, students interact with their teacher and classmates in large group discussions. Furthermore, as students become more aware of those around them and develop more advanced language skills, they have an increased ability to become responsible 21st century leaders that encourage acceptance and understanding both within and beyond their community. Students examine the unique traditions and customs of the culture as well.
Students have the opportunity to study advanced math in high school and throughout their education are instructed in the applications of math in the real world. Math students construct and compare various models, and use those models to solve problems. Interpretation of functions is another central area of study. Students acquire the ability to use function notation and analyze functions using different representations. The relationship between congruence and rigid motions is explored, with students evaluating geometric constructions as well.

- Academic Decathlon - The Academic Decathlon is an academic competition between teams of different schools. Each team is comprised of equal A, B and C students and work on different subjects. The students compete in the areas of history, art, math, music, economics, speech, interviews, science, literature and super quiz.
- Career Learning Starts Early in Hidalgo ISD - Students at the junior high school are introduced to a range of career and technical courses ranging from journalism and speech to health and career awareness. Students are encouraged to speak with the advisers if they are interested in focusing on any of these subjects throughout their education.
- Parental Career Pathway Academy - The Hidalgo ISD Parental Career Pathway Academy is an effort by the district to reach out to adult learners in the community and provide courses that will help them achieve their current and future goals. Chalk Talk: The Role of the Nutrition Curriculum
Students learn about proper food intake as part of the nutrition curriculum. In elementary school, learners develop an understanding of the major food groups. Students explore why people eat different kinds of food as well. The relationship between diet, physical activity, and overall health is also examined. Learners identify the types of foods they should eat, as well as the proper amounts of food to intake at each meal. Middle school learners expand their knowledge of nutrition by evaluating the concepts of variety and balance of meals, as well as eating in moderation. There is a focus on wellness too. Students learn about the value of regular physical activity and nutrition in terms of physical wellness and mental health as well.
