Carver District and Curriculum
Carver Public Schools contain just two schools and 1,850 students. The district is currently formulating a plan to build a new elementary school. Carver Public Schools makes available Curriculum Benchmarks that align with the standards and explain the content and skills students are expected to learn in each grade level and content area. To help all students achieve success, the district’s English language learning program helps students gain the linguistic skills they need to be successful in school and in life. There are also programs for gifted and talented students and a range of career-oriented courses in the high school. The result of these programs is well-rounded students that have the skills they need to tackle the challenges of college and career.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Carver District Curriculum
Science includes inquiry-based learning, physical science, life science, earth and space, and technology. Presentation of findings is also a key part of the curriculum, with students learning how to effectively prepare and present reports related to their investigations. Social studies includes history and geography, civics, and economics, with history in specific areas such as world, U.S., Canada, and Mexico being added as students become older. Benchmarks for the secondary grade levels involve specific courses. There are also benchmarks for specials such as music, art, and physical education.
The English language arts benchmarks are broken down into the categories of language, reading and literature, and composition. By eighth grade English language arts is designed to prepare students for high school; students begin to analyze and interpret a Shakespearean piece and become more advanced at responding to literature in writing. The Mathematics curriculum is divided into number sense and operations; patterns, relations, and algebra; geometry; measurement; and data analysis, statistics, and probability.

Keeping Informed: Recent Carver Educational News
- Carver’s Holiday Concert Trifecta - This past holiday season, the elementary, middle, and high school students each performed on separate nights in front of friends and family. The high school’s night featured performances by the concert band, symphonic band, and jazz ensemble as well as vocal solos and duets. The elementary school’s fifth grade advanced band, who had a new director and had only had eight practices together, put on a great show. Finally, the middle school’s night featured performances form the band, choral group, and the Crusader Big Band.
- Carver Middle School Hosts and Wins Robotics Competition - Recently, Carver Middle School hosted its very first VEX robotics competition, which involved nine teams' robots competing in relays, maze races, bean bag battles, and dunking and sweeping. Craver's "King Moonracer" earned first place at the high school level in the hometown competition. Carver's team co-advisor designs the medals and printed them out using a 3-D printer.
- Carver Middle School Houses YPAC Program - A room at Carver Middle School has now been dedicated to house the Young People's' Alliance of Carver (YPAC). A retired Carver kindergarten teacher was hired as the volunteer coordinator and hopes to recruit volunteers who help kids with their homework, lead activities, and overall, make the environment a safe one to be in for the kids. YPAC also has limited access to the cafeteria and other classrooms and the outdoor space.

The website has a "Downloads Shop" in which teachers can purchase materials such as lesson plans and units, worksheets and graphic organizers, teaching guides and strategies, PowerPoint presentations, learning center activities, Common Core resources, etc. and download them instantly; some free downloads are available as well, and teachers can view countless free lesson plans. The website features forums, which allow teachers to "talk" with one another about the grade bands or content areas they teach, classroom management, tips for substitute and new teachers, professional development and teacher assessments, etc. The website has "Tips for Teachers" in many areas, including attention getters, icebreaker activities, classroom jobs, bulletin board ideas, classroom management, clean-up time, learning centers, motivating students, etc. Finally, the website includes a worksheet generator and a leveled reader database.
