Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Leon Valley District Curriculum
Leon Independent School District has a mathematics curriculum that shows students how to look for, and use, math throughout their learning. When they are in science there are many times when formulas are used, as there are in geography, students need to be familiar with how to work equations to solve these problems. Students are also shown how math can be found in poetry, literature and almost everywhere in music. By looking for math, students discover why this subject is so important throughout their lives.
Part of the curriculum at Leon Independent School District includes the study of Government. By learning about the formation of the United States Government students learn how to think critically about how the different branches of government should work and the role of state governments in the lives of its citizens. They also gain an understanding of the workings of social and economic policies and the political systems throughout the United States. Chalk Talk: Different Learning Styles
There are several different ways that students learn in school. One of these is tactally, or by touching and feeling. Generally, this is one of the ways that young children learn but it can continue for some through high school and throughout their lives. These are the students that like to design and build things, quite often by moving or build with manipulatives. By knowing if a child is a tactual learner, parents and teachers can help make sure that material is presented in a way that they can relate to. Some learn by writing, listening, watching, or touching. The kinesthetic learner learns by moving things, or themselves as they experience education. These kids enjoy using manipulative and physically moving things. They also do very well when included in real-life action. By knowing how these students learn the best, educators, and parents, can help to excel in school.
