Newbury District and Curriculum

Triton Regional School District serves more than 2,800 students residing in the coastal towns of Newbury, Salisbury, and Rowley. The district has designed a curriculum that is broad, balanced, coherent, rigorous, and relevant all at the same time. Students literacy and communication skills are emphasized so that they develop these critical abilities and are able to use and hone them. Mathematical problem-solving offers students a chance to explore how problems are solved so that they understand what works and what does not. In science, students learn how to conduct scientific investigation and develop their scientific reasoning abilities.

We currently cover the following Newbury-area school district: Triton Regional School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Newbury District Curriculum

Triton Regional School District has developed an extensive curriculum planning strategy. A broad curriculum allows students to be exposed to the elements of learning, such as knowledge, concepts, and skills, as well as learning intelligences that include linguistic and literary, mathematical, moral, and aesthetic. A balanced curriculum assures that each area of learning is focused on equally within the curriculum. A coherent curriculum must be planned as a whole curriculum and result in each area of learning being connected and contributing to students’ overall learning.

A relevant curriculum relates to students’ everyday lives and considers their prior learning experiences and readiness to learn new things. A rigorous curriculum is appropriately challenging for all students and focuses on developing critical thinking and problem solving skills. It is also very important that instruction be differentiated to meet the needs of each individual student; this not only includes accommodating students who have disabilities and providing students with academic interventions but also catering to their preferred learning styles.

Chalk Talk: The College Tour

One of the ways to find a college that is just right for the teen is to go on a college tour. Parents can help prepare for the trip by, first, talking with the child about the role they would like the parent to take. They may want the parent to stay close by, or not. If they do not, this is the time for the parent to explore the campus on their own. Parents should also research about the tour on the internet. Searching through departmental sites, student events sites and the admissions office will help to answer some primary questions. Once on campus, the tour will give a broad look of college life. There may be tours of residence halls, libraries or other areas. If there are areas that the parent and student would like to see, wait until the end and then ask the guide for recommendations. While at campus encourage the child to talk to other students, besides the guide, to get a better view of campus.
