Stratford District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
Students in Stratford receive an education based on the provincial curriculum which lays out clear, high-quality learning objectives in all subject areas. The curriculum has frameworks for Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, French Immersion, Core French, Cooperative Education, Independent Study and many other career-related courses. The curriculum design begins by introducing basic concepts and skills in each subject and progressively moving towards more advanced abilities and understanding. As students enter high school, they have more choices for the course of study they will pursue.
We currently cover the following Stratford-area school districts: English Language School Board and Commission Scolaire de Langue Française.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Stratford District Curriculum
Each subject contains General, Key-Stage, and Specific Curriculum Outcomes that guide instruction at each grade level. In Science, when students start high school, they will study Life, Atoms and Elements, Characteristics of Electricity, and Space Exploration. The goal is for them to understand how each of these areas work in a big picture way and also attain specific, in-depth knowledge about each topic. As they learn about each, the processes of scientific investigation are also learnt and students develop their scientific literacy.
The Math curriculum for students in high school begins with advanced study of Number Systems, Patterns and Relations, Shape and Space, and Statistics and Probability. The Patterns and Relations strand introduces students to linear equations, how to graph linear relations, and how to analyse a graph to interpolate or extrapolate a solution to a problem. They also to learn ways to solve single variable linear inequalities. Students also learn how to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of polynomial expressions.

Chalk Talk: Choosing a College
Choosing a college is one of the most important decisions that a high school student will make. It is important that they have a clear idea of what they want to study at college or pursue as a career when they make their decision. They need to look through the program offerings to make sure there are options that appeal for a major. Students also have to think about the environment they want to be in at college, whether an urban or rural, or large or small university. Also, having information about the partnerships that the college has and how that can benefit their education and post-graduation experience is a good thing to understand. Finally, having a sense of the social life of the school is important since students will be committing four years to the institution.
