Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Hitchcock District Curriculum

Students learn about numbers and equations through the Hitchcock and Santa Fe Independent School District's mathematics curriculum. The Mathematics curriculum is focused on the four essential concepts of operations with fractions, math facts, estimation, and math vocabulary. Students are expected to participate in challenges themed to reinforce these four principles. Students are also given activities to complete in short timed sections to enhance their memorization of key math facts.

The English Language Arts and Reading curriculum has implemented the Reading First program which focuses on early reading instruction for fostering advanced long term literacy. Students are expected to reach an accelerated level of reading comprehension preparing them for more advanced writing and research tasks. Chalk Talk: Tips for College and Professional Applications

The Honors and Memberships section of an application or resume should be reserved for organizations that are professional, focused on academics or education, and related to specific skills that are helpful to becoming an educator. For example, one might list their acceptance into the National Honor Society, which recognizes academic excellence in students who achieve high marks throughout their education. Of course, extracurricular activities should only be listed if they are professional or academic, or if it demonstrates a credible leadership role. Candidates may list clubs that were related to writing or technology—for example—both essential skills for teaching. Individuals should note any leadership roles they had in these clubs and describe the education-related organizations in more detail. Candidates should typically avoid discussing non-high school activities here.
