The curriculum at Carthage Independent School District is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The TEKS aligns all districts in Texas with the same scope and sequence for learning, ensuring that all students are receiving an equitable education. In addition to core academics, schools offer innovative and college and career readiness programs to support students interests. Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses are available for students seeking increased rigor. There is also an Early College High School option that allows students to accelerate credit earning for college while in high school.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Carthage District Curriculum
The Math curriculum is designed to introduce students to all the topics they will study in high school during their early years. They learn about pattern recognition and how to represent relationships which supports their understanding of algebra. They work with shapes and measurement which gives them the necessary basis in geometry. Proportions and ratios help lay the foundation for being able to perform data analysis and when students learn about fractions they are beginning to understand complex number systems.
The high school Math curriculum begins with Algebra where students learn about linear functions, equations, and inequalities. Quadratic and exponential functions and equations are also introduced. In geometry, students work with coordinate and transformational geometry and learn how to use deductive reasoning to understand geometric relationships. Students are also expected to prove and apply theorems and be able to support their reasoning. Advanced math options include Precalculus, Statistics, and Advanced Quantitative Reasoning.

Keeping Informed: Recent Carthage Educational News
- UIL Academics - UIL Academics is a statewide academic competition in which students work as teams in events that cover all subject areas. There is competition and scholarly work in areas that include Math, Science, Literary Criticism, Informative & Persuasive Speaking, Current Issues & Events, Journalism and many other topics.
- Drama Group - The Drama Club offers students interested in the performing arts a chance to get valuable experience. The group works on both dramas and musicals and students have responsibilities in all aspects of production, marketing, and performing.
- Student Publications - There are two groups that students who are interested in literary pursuits can participate in. The Carthage HS News is a student-run newspaper which publishes an online paper regularly. Students interested in journalism, photography, web design, and digital publishing are all welcome. There is also The Pine Burr, which is a student literary magazine focused on creative writing.

First, the community college system has a tradition of successes in preparing students for further college work at a four-year college. Many students don’t know what they want to major in, and a community college is a cheap, supportive way to allow a student to enter college without being having a huge tuition cost hovering over their heads and adding stress to an already difficult time. Community colleges are set up to have significantly smaller class sizes and students are also able to define themselves and their interests in the community established at the college. Also, community colleges offer flexible scheduling, so they are often better for students who are working.
