Spotswood Public Schools uses the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards to guide its academic program. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Spotswood District Curriculum
Spotswood Public Schools’ main curriculum goal is to ensure that students gain the knowledge and skills necessary for success in college and their careers. In order to be successful in the real world. Students must be able to think critically, analyze information, comprehend new ideas, communicate effectively, solve problems, and become lifelong learners. There is an increased focus on non-fiction to support these goals. The curriculum needs to be challenging and develop essential 21st century learning skills.
The high school curriculum offers slightly more options for students. Students may choose to take Advanced Placement courses that use a college level curriculum, and which can earn students college credit for successful passage of the AP exam. There is also a strong career and technical education curriculum that is designed to help students pursue meaningful 21st century employment. The high school also offers more electives that may speak to interests that the students have for their career pursuits.

- District Partners with Parents - There are a number of groups that parents can get involved with to support the schools. There is the Spotwood PTA which is a collaboration between teachers and parents. Other groups include the SHS Band Parents Association and the Spotwood Special Education Parents Association, as well as Project Graduation.
- Memorial Middle School Club Cares - Memorial Middle School’s Community Cares Club recently donated food and hygiene products to a local food pantry. The club was able to provide 307 items, including 287 pounds of food, to the pantry and thrift shop, which serve approximately 400 families—and 1,500 people—per month.
- SHS Seniors Chosen as Chief State School Officer Candidates - Each year, the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars—appointed by President Obama—selects honored scholars based on various criteria. Two Spotswood seniors were chosen as Chief School State Scholars and are able to apply to the U.S. Presidential Scholar program. The outstanding students were selected on the basis of their high academic achievement and their service to their school and community.

Chalk Talk: Children’s Literature News
Although Dr. Seuss’s books are known for being older, a new book written by the author was released recently, in the summer of 2015. The book is titled What Pet Should I Get? In the book, a brother and sister visit a pet shop and can't decide which pet to to get, so they bring home all of them! It wouldn't be a Dr. Seuss book without a lesson, and this one teaches children that, although it can be hard to make up their mind, they just have to do so sometimes. The book contains a similar charming rhyming-style and illustrations as all of the classic Dr. Seuss favorites. An extended activity for this book would be to take a child to an animal shelter and volunteer to walk dogs or care for other animals together.
