EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I want to challenge young minds to pursue their passions in life. I genuinely believe that the best motivation is by exploring a topic that is exciting. One of the many reasons I enjoy teaching in the Primary and Junior divisions is having the ability to influence students during some of their key formative years. That is to say, the educational skills they develop at a young age are their tools to success in adulthood.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I recently graduated from Nipissing University’s Schulich School of Education with my Bachelor of Education (Primary/Junior). I also have a Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University in Theatre and Film Studies. I have been working with children in both recreational and educational environments since I was seventeen years old. I have an extensive amount of experience infusing my lessons with different forms of technology.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have an exceptional amount of experience working with children and young adults in both academic and recreational environments. I have completed two teaching placements in a grade 1 and grade 6 classroom, as a part of my degree requirements. I also had the opportunity to teach rotary math and science lessons to a grade 7 class. In 2013, I completed a paid-internship through the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts. I taught drama lessons at various after-school programs in conjunction with the YMCA.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am very active in Hamilton’s artistic community. I have acted in eighteen stage plays since I began university in 2006. Some of these productions were produced by McMaster’s School of the Arts, while others were staged at various community theatre venues throughout the city. Most recently, I played the role of Tranio in the McMaster Thespian Company production of The Taming of the Shrew.
